BORN TO BECOME...

BY TINA MARTIN-BROWN

There are times, moments, events in our life that change us, in our hearts and deep down within our soul. We become someone different than we were before. Sometimes it’s a huge fate changing event and then other times its slow, small momentous pieces of time that chip away at our very form. At times its with tears and at other times its with laughter. But at our very core there is still the original, the foundation, no matter what type of soul structural changing occurs. We are who we are. We could be like a glass that has been shattered into a million pieces and yet stays glued together, fractured multiple times and yet still whole. We fall and hurt ourselves, we have wounds, some that heal and some that don’t. We have scars from the wounds that have healed in some form and the scar is a reminder. Some of the scars are ones we can see and the other scars are hidden from site, we may not even be aware they are there until we find ourselves trying what we consider something new and it brings ghostly pain. We reach out, we bend or stretch and get a sharp pain, the old scar that we were unaware of opens up and we realize that certain memories are painful, that the sudden movement of bending or reaching in some way distresses some past distant memory wound we did not even know was there. We moved past pain many times because we have no time to dwell there, we must keep moving because life keeps moving and if we stop we will be left behind. No one wants to be deserted by time, a historical relic left upon a shelf to collect dust then be callously thrown away. So we keep moving working through the unperceived pain and getting bumped and bruised unceremoniously. Until one day we take a minute to stop and breathe in and suddenly those past bumps and bruises scream their presence out surprising us into realization. And if we take the time to examine the implications behind our bumps and bruised we will realize that with each one, though there was pain, we grew like a rose that gravitates toward a slow actualizing full bloom. We realize that the growth, the process is what our whole life has been about. We can fully and finally see the beauty in our most painful growing pains. Every second of every day we are always and forever becoming. We know, realize and understand that we have slowly and surely become exactly who we were always meant to be.
